Free Speech

This is a dummy page to sneak past censorship on The Huffington Post. I have another blog created to discuss concerns I and others have regarding free speech on Huffpo.

I called that blog Banned From Huffpo which seemed like a good name at the time but I've come to realize that leaving a comment that links to "Banned from Huffpo" ensures that the comment won't show up on the Huffington Post.

So click here to enter Banned From Huffpo

  1. The address I tried to give you on HP is community@huffingtonpost.com. My post is being "moderated" right now, so I don't know if it will make it. It's exactly the kind of thing they will arbitrarily censor. The gist of it is, continue to complain ON THE SITE, repeatedly. I noticed that my fans increased with each post, and sometimes it has taken as many as ten attempts to get something posted -- something which violated no stated policy. I'm sure you know that petty authority can go to one's head. And I'm sure you're aware that posters get points for any post they can get removed. HP apparently believes that informing on your neighbor should be rewarded.

  2. I've also found that if you use symbols and such, your post will be automatically moderated, especially the @ symbol, because they don't want users recommending other sites. They may also be concerned about viruses contained in these posts.

  3. The Huffington Post is one of the most disgusting sites for censorship and self-aggrandizement in the news biz today. Ariana Huffington is trying to become the Oprah, she gives medals out to bloggers that essentially drop the level of intelligence down to nil. Soft porn, stupid fashion (do you like this actress in her new dress), misleading headlines. I could go on, but the Huffington Post is all hype. Thank you for letting me vent.

  5. Note well, Everyone. We have no expectation of privacy here. They know right now who we are and where we are.
    Should be interesting.

  6. My recent letter to Huff Post after having been banned and reinstated:

Huff Post, you moderate your site like Palin censors her facebook page. I have tired time and time again to post a statement regarding they hypocrisy of Bernard Levy, but it is always cut. Why? Does Arianna have a personal relationship with Mr. Levy? Did you promise him he could say whatever he wanted without fear of rebuttal?

Mr. Levy pretends to care about women's rights yet he asserts that Polanski's 13 year-old rape victim was complicit in her forced sodomy. He excuses the rape and attacks the victim and calling him out on it is inappropriate?

    Disappointing.

  7. Jesus God. A 13 year old cannot given consent. There is no way the child could have been complicit in the crime even if willing. You don't screw children.

  9. I down graded Huffington Post to ZERO. Ariana H is using it as a self-promotion platform (I think she sees herself as the next Oprah) ... and fashion, fashion, fashion ... ugh!!!!! This rag has turned into one of the most disgusting locations for news on the internet.

  10. To anonymous: I mostly agree but the thing is I still like many of the political columnists and editors and the community at the site. If not I would just ignore it and not bother about their censorship. But I agree they are going down hill fast.

  11. From what I've been able to figure out is that the moderators censor whatever they arbitrarily feel like. I've had comments deleted which I am sure did not break any of the HuffPo rules--at least not those on the list they gave me, and I assume the same as all others see. Regularly, I've had any comments I've made containing Spanish deleted (because according to the censorer, aka moderator, posting anything not in English is "against the rules") eventhough it was a conversation with another Spanish speaker on non-controversial topics. Well, I cannot find such a rule; and I've noticed that French doesn't get the same treatment. Also, I've noticed that the nastiest comments often seem to be okay, while others get dumped for absolutely no apparent reason--not just my posts, but those of others as well.

  12. We've all had similar experiences. The Spanish thing is new though, hadn't heard that. I think that's ridiculous. If you haven't already done so please check out the petition on change.org:

  13. HP is a rag just like the New York Post.
They delete most of my comments.

  14. As much as I have issues with the Huffington Post I think it is orders of magnitude better than the New York Post. If I didn't i would bother.

  15. Thanks for providing this link RDB. I post on HP as Blodo. Being old school (WTF...just plain OLD) I like to do research on subjects and make some max-length posts. Of course these are almost guaranteed to get moderated or deleted; so a whole whack of work down the tube.

My biggest beef is that the moderation is not consistent. If one could get a really good sense of what constitutes stepping over the line...well o.k., you either toe the line or leave. But what the hell are the rules? Well this is what they say: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/p/frequently-asked-question.html#moderation

The rule against ad hominen attacks is perhaps the least consistently followed...especially by those who write articles for HP.

And...I agree with many of the comments I see here about the dumbing down of the HP site. Lots of stuff on the Kardashians (however it's spelled) and no science section. Very telling.

    I could go on,but I won't.

  16. Thanks Anonymous. I agree completely. Its not THAT they censor. Certainly any site as large as Huffpo must censor. Its the insane and inconsistent way that they censor. BTW, if you want to talk more feel free to email me at RedDog071@gmail.com
